Our wedding anniversary/karate competition combo was a bit fraught. Fin was horribly sick over himself and the car on the drive up to Reading. After a couple of emergency stops we hit the widespread flooding, where we had to drive through a couple of newly formed rivers, and then on to lengthy tailbacks at the M4. At the exit to the Travelodge it transpired that said hotel was now in the middle of a lake and therefore unaccessible! Fortunately we were able to check in at the one on the other side of the motorway. It will certainly be a memorable anniversary, that one.
Tabie performed well at the Karate competition. No medals this time, but early days. More recently she took her next grading and is now a RED BELT. I think this is just two away from a black belt. She is scarily fit and skinny. She leaps from shadows and karate chops me.
26th July will be remembered as P-Bass day. Yes, I finally decided it was time to splash-out, so I ventured into town with band-mate Dan to legendary Brighton music emporium, GAK. They had exactly what I wanted: An American Fender Precision Deluxe 3-Colour Sunburst. A thing of beauty. A symbol of greatness. A very expensive piece of kit! They were asking silly money compared to the online shops, but after a half hour of haggling it came down to something a bit more realistic (but still an obscene amount of money to those not in the music biz, when you consider what it is: a small lump of wood and some strings). I have to say it's a worthy investment though. It sounds smooth and rounded, yet punchy and rich, velvety and delicious. Listen out for it at the next gig!
Work has been busy of late (isn't it always? for everyone?) but I managed to get away for a few days of ITIL training in London this month. ITIL is very boring to describe, but very nice to be getting on the CV at the moment. Give it a google if your having trouble sleeping! They've just announced a load of our jobs are going to India and I suspect many more are going to follow next year. Not overly concerned. This is the global marketplace at work. I think there will always be work here for people with good aptitude.
