Brighton turns cold

You could feel it in the air at lunchtime today. Our extended gobal-warming-enhanced summer is over. The weather just feels different. Shortly before I left work, the sun shone out across Brighton, against a backdrop of dark cloud, and I caught a shot of it from the top floor of the building.

Then on the way home I stopped on the seafront to get this footage of the starlings gathering over the West Pier before they head off for warmer climes.

spider invasion

This was in April, but I was just digging through the old photos and came across it.

One day I noticed something on the side of our plant pot in the bathroom. It looked like some sort of growth. I think it had been there a few days.

On closer inspection it turned out it was moving!

In fact, it was hundreds of tiny little spiders!

In the end I relocated them to the garden, as I wasn't sure how big they might end up. They haven't been back since.

nanoless

My ipod nano died a week or so ago, the morning after a cycle home in torrential rain. In retrospect I probably should have kept it in the bag in that sort of weather. It started refusing to play, then flashing battery pictures at me and finally just an image of an ipod with a sad little face :( Anyway, a quick check showed that the one year warranty was due to expire on 26th October, so I wasted no time in registering the problem with apple who, to their credit, swiftly posted me some packaging along with details of how to arrange for UPS to come and collect the parcel. Today I was emailed to say that my nano had arrived in the Netherlands for repair/replace, so hopefully not too much longer. At the moment I have a queue of new music forming on my laptop: Scissor Sisters, Beck, Hot Chip, all waiting to be listened to. I rely on the daily commute for my musical input - I never have time anywhere else - so I'm feeling a bit lost without my little magical music box.
