The Winter Solstice Cometh

This has to be the worst time of year for cycling to work. It's cold sure, but much worse than that is the driving wind and rain, the constant darkness and the fact that the pebbles have been blown from the beach all over the cycle path, leading to punctures aplenty as little fragments of stone lodge themselves in my tyres. I can't even have the ipod on as the rain wouldn't do it any good, and I wouldn't be able to hear it anyway over the roar of gale-force winds doing their best to stop me in my tracks.

Still, it shouldn't be too much longer before things settle down into winter proper, and the days start getting longer again (slowly). Those crisp, clear January mornings are a great way to start the day :)

At home, Finlay has his first tooth, and is keen to demonstrate its razor-like edge on my fingers! The christmas tree is up, we have some new pretty LED christmas lights decorating the living room. I'm cooking up lots of veggie soup and hotpots to keep us warm and well-fed. We get boxes of rude, muddy organic root vegetables and leafy greens delivered to us by Riverford, which I then have to look up on the internet so I can work out what to do with them!

Tomorrow is our work Christmas lunch. Just a small team of 12, off out for a (traditional?) indian curry down the marina, then on into town for ales, wines and merry-making!
